TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Association of Online Motorcycle Taxi Drivers (Ojol) Garda Indonesia will mobilize between 2,000 and 5,000 people for a protest commemorating National Transportation Day in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
"2,000-5,000 ojol members on two wheels, four-wheeled online drivers, and online couriers," said Raden Igun Wicaksono, the Chair of the Association of Online Motorcycle Taxi Drivers Garda Indonesia, to Tempo, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
The protest will take place at three locations: the House of Representatives (DPR) building, the State Palace, and the Ministry of Transportation office. Igun said the crowd will gather at the Garda Indonesia headquarters, located at Jalan Kodam Raya No. 6 in Sumur Batu, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, at 9:00 AM WIB (Western Indonesia Time).
"The mass route from the headquarters to the Presidential Palace for the oration. Then to the Ministry of Transportation for oration and finally to the DPR RI," said Igun.
Igun also urged Jakarta residents to choose alternative transportation besides online motorcycles and taxis tomorrow. "Garda's appeal to Jakarta residents to choose alternative transportation modes on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, because most online transportation will shut down their applications massively as a form of solidarity for the protest movement," he said.
Igun said that National Transportation Day is the right time to voice the regression of the Ministry of Transportation since Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwaghandi was appointed. According to him, the Minister of Transportation behaves more like a businessman than a minister.
He believes that Dudy prefers to support online transportation application companies and even becomes their spokesperson to reject the aspirations of ojol drivers. Garda assesses that a "vendor-driven policy" has occurred, whereby online transportation application companies have controlled the policies of the Minister of Transportation.
"As a result of this, the Association of Online Motorcycle Taxi Drivers Garda Indonesia, together with alliance coalitions, online motorcycle communities, University of Indonesia's Executive Student Board (BEM UI), and other student alliances, will hold a massive protest starting from the Ministry of Transportation, then to the Presidential Palace, and ending the protest at the DPR RI," said Igun.
Tomorrow's action will be followed by two-wheeled ojol drivers, four-wheeled online drivers, and online couriers. The first demand is to urge the Online Transportation Bill to be included in the National Legislation Program 2025-2026. Second, the association demands a maximum of 10 percent of the application's share. Third, the association has also asked the government to regulate rates for food and item deliveries. Fourth, demands for an investigative audit of the 5 percent share taken by the applicator. Fifth, to eliminate programs such as Aceng, Slot, Multi Order, Paid Members, and others that harm driver partners. Sixth, to urge the President to dismiss the Minister of Transportation. Seventh, urges the National Police Chief to thoroughly investigate the August 28 tragedy that killed Affan Kurniawan, an ojol driver.
