BUSINESS INFO - PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk continues to strengthen its collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme Financial Initiative (UNEP FI) to accelerate the implementation of Low-Emission Housing (RRE) in Indonesia. This strategic move is aimed at supporting President Prabowo Subianto's national housing and green economy programs.
UNEP FI is the United Nations' initiative in the field of sustainable finance.
BTN Director of Risk Management Setiyo Wibowo said that the housing sector could be a major force in achieving Indonesia's net-zero emissions target by 2060, while also expanding access to decent and environmentally friendly housing for the community. BTN, he continued, is also committed to being a pioneer and driver of green financing in the housing sector.
“BTN acts as a bridge between the housing needs of the people and the global sustainability agenda. This collaboration with UNEP FI will accelerate Indonesia's financial transition to a green economy through housing,” he said during the UNEP FI Regional Roundtable on Sustainable Finance Asia Pacific in Suzhou on Friday, June 20th.
This year, BTN targets the construction of 10,000 low-emission housing units by 2025. This target is part of a roadmap for 150,000 low-emission housing units by 2029.
This year, low-emission homes are defined as dwellings with at least 15 percent environmentally friendly materials. By 2029, the use of environmentally friendly materials in low-emission homes is also targeted to increase to 30 percent.
With the implementation of this initiative, if the target of 150,000 units is achieved, it is estimated that there will be a reduction of 2.2 million kilograms of plastic waste and 2,425 tons of carbon emissions—equivalent to planting 110,000 trees.
“This initiative is not just about housing, but about the future of the Earth and more sustainable economic growth,” concluded Setiyo.
Meanwhile, by the end of 2024, BTN has collaborated with 8 developers to build 1,198 low-emission housing units.
