Dreams of Investing in Free Meal Kitchens

9 hours ago 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of businesspeople nearly fell victim to the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program. One of them is Jaya Sartika, a garlic businessman from Sukabumi, West Java. He was nearly deceived by the practice of buying and selling Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) kitchen locations.

The story began when Jaya was approached by salespeople offering investment opportunities to build MBG kitchens in January 2025. They came on behalf of various foundations and claimed they could help process SPPG kitchen permits. At first, Jaya was not interested because the offers made by the salespeople did not make sense.

They asked for a Rp2,000 (US$0.11) cut from the Rp15,000 (US$0.83) per portion that would be paid by the government. "They said it was for foundation rental fees," Jaya told Tempo.

Jaya remained interested in investing. He finally decided to become an investor after attending a National Nutrition Agency (BGN) event at a hotel in Depok, West Java. At the event, which was attended by then-BGN Chief Dadan Hindayana, Jaya received a more reasonable offer. A foundation offered to take only Rp1,000 (US$0.06) per portion.
