TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Garuda Indonesia has announced the resumption of flights to and from Jakarta on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. "As airport operations open again, Garuda Indonesia starts operating flights to and from Jakarta," a written statement from Garuda Indonesia on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The management stated that Garuda Indonesia's flight service is gradually returning to normal starting Tuesday at 00:01 WIB (Western Indonesia Time). The management ensures that each flight is operated after safety assessments and aircraft airworthiness inspections for potential impacts of volcanic ash dispersal, as well as in coordination with the relevant authorities.
Garuda Indonesia urges customers with flights departing after midnight on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, to arrive at the airport three hours early.
Today, the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport authorities have resumed flight services starting at 00:30 WIB. The decision to reopen operational services is in accordance with the NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) issued by AirNav Indonesia.
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is projected to serve around 113,001 passengers with 896 flights today. "Until 08:00 WIB, 90 flights have been recorded, consisting of 76 departures and 14 arrivals, with details of 79 domestic flights and 11 international flights," said Asst. Deputy Communication and Legal of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Yudistiawan, on Tuesday.
Yudistiawan stated that before flight operations resumed, Soekarno-Hatta Airport ensured the readiness of facilities on the landside and airside.
On the landside, he said, checks were conducted on facilities and service areas in the terminal, including departure and arrival areas, check-in counters, security checks, waiting areas, and other supporting facilities. "The readiness of operational personnel and service personnel is also ensured so that all user service processes can run smoothly," he said.
Meanwhile, comprehensive checks and cleanings were carried out on the airside, including the apron, taxiway, and runway areas. These checks were performed to ensure that all facilities were ready and met flight safety standards.
Furthermore, Yudistiawan stated that, during the initial recovery phase, flight movements are carried out gradually and in a measurable way, taking into account the operational conditions on the ground. "This arrangement is made to maintain the smooth flow of departures and arrivals while supporting the handling of previously affected flights," he said.
Yudistiawan urges potential passengers to monitor the status and schedule of their flights through their respective airlines' official channels before heading to the airport.
