TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- Foreign ministers from Indonesia, Arab countries, and Muslim countries gathered in Jordan on Wednesday to discuss a joint declaration on Jerusalem, according to Antara, citing Anadolu.
According to Jordan's official news agency, Petra, the meeting took place amid escalating illegal Israeli actions deemed to target the city's identity and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
The meeting was attended by members of the Arab ministerial committee tasked with addressing Israeli policies and actions in Jerusalem, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and the foreign ministers of Turkey, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
During the meeting, the ministers discussed developments in Jerusalem and the surrounding holy sites, with the aim of agreeing on a common stance to confront Israel's escalating policies and actions deemed to violate international law.
The committee includes members from Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Iraq, Qatar, Egypt, and Morocco, as well as the Arab League Secretary-General.
Jordan hosted the meeting due to its role as custodian of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
The discussions come amid ongoing Israeli moves that Arab and Muslim countries say threaten Jerusalem's identity, religious heritage and historical status.
