TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Erick Thohir, Indonesia’s newly inaugurated Minister of Youth and Sports, has yet to determine whether he will continue serving as Chairman of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI).
He said he would leave the decision to the world football governing body, FIFA, following his official inauguration on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
“There is a process at FIFA. FIFA is the highest sports authority in the world. They will make the decision,” Erick said at the State Palace.
Erick acknowledged that it remains unclear whether a Minister of Youth and Sports can simultaneously hold the PSSI chairmanship. For now, he will follow FIFA’s regulations. “Let FIFA decide,” he added when asked whether he might step down from PSSI.
President Prabowo Subianto officially appointed Erick as Minister of Youth and Sports this Wednesday evening. Erick, who previously served as Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, replaces Dito Ariotedjo, who was reshuffled on Monday, September 8, 2025.
The cabinet reshuffle was enacted under Presidential Decision Number 96P/2025 concerning the dismissal and appointment of ministers and deputy ministers of the Red and White Cabinet for the 2024–2029 term.
Alongside Erick, President Prabowo also appointed Djamari Chaniago as Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs and several deputy ministers.
