TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) voiced optimism that Indonesia and Thailand could emerge as global leaders in food security by jointly leveraging their natural and human resources, biodiversity, and agricultural strengths.

Speaking at the Indonesia-Thailand Business Forum in Jakarta on Tuesday, Kadin Chair Anindya Bakrie emphasized that broad opportunities remain for the two countries to step up multifaceted cooperation while strengthening their global competitiveness.

He assessed that Indonesia and Thailand have opportunities to collaborate on the halal industry, clean energy, digital connectivity, manufacturing, and the digital economy.

“On top of that, I believe our countries can work together on food security at the global level,” Bakrie remarked.

The Kadin leader argued that Indonesia and Thailand need to make the most of their large populations and economic potential by pursuing innovative measures.

He drew attention to Thailand’s notable international reputation in agriculture, highlighting the worldwide reach of its rice and tropical fruit exports.

Bakrie then shifted to Indonesia, underscoring its ample resources and reputation as a country blessed with a high level of biodiversity.

Against that backdrop, he affirmed that the two countries could complement one another in building resilient food systems rather than competing with each other.

His remarks came shortly after Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto hosted Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta the previous night.

Their meeting produced multiple strategic outcomes, including the adoption of the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026–2030 to guide the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.

"Economic cooperation remains a key pillar of our bilateral relationship. We are optimistic that the trade target of US$20 billion by 2030 can be achieved through the implementation of the strategic partnership roadmap," Prabowo said at the time.
