TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The governments of Indonesia and Thailand are targeting US$20 billion in bilateral trade by 2030 through deepened strategic partnerships across multiple sectors.
President Prabowo Subianto announced the commitment during a joint press statement following his meeting with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday evening, August 3, 2026.
"Economic cooperation remains a key pillar of our bilateral relationship. We are optimistic that the trade target of US$20 billion by 2030 can be achieved through the implementation of the strategic partnership roadmap," Prabowo said.
Adoption of the 2026–2030 Strategic Roadmap
Marking the first official visit by a Thai prime minister to Indonesia in 15 years, both leaders adopted the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026–2030 to guide the strengthening of bilateral ties across various sectors.
The roadmap is a follow-up to the agreement reached at the 2026 ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, last May. The initiative also advances commitments established through the bilateral Leaders' Consultation mechanism since 2025.
On the economic front, Indonesia and Thailand agreed to expand investment, broaden market access, and foster closer partnerships between commercial actors.
The two nations will also establish a Joint Trade Commission, the first bilateral mechanism of its kind in the history of Indonesia-Thailand relations, to identify commercial opportunities and resolve trade barriers.
"We also agreed to enhance cooperation in food security related to agricultural technology, logistics, food processing, and supply chain resilience," Prabowo stated.
Energy, Digital Economy, and Halal Value Chains
In the energy domain, both countries are pushing to convene the Indonesia-Thailand Energy Forum to enhance energy security and accelerate the transition toward sustainable energy sources.
Indonesia and Thailand further pledged to strengthen digital economy ties, which includes expanding the use of local currency transactions (LCT) to streamline trade and investment efficiency.
"With our respective strengths in the halal industry, Indonesia and Thailand can mutually support one another in building regional and global halal value chains," Prabowo noted.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anutin stressed that both nations have immense potential to boost bilateral trade and investment, supported by a combined market of nearly 350 million people.
According to Anutin, capitalizing on this potential requires improving market access for trade and investment while strengthening ties between business communities. "We agree that Thailand and Indonesia have vast potential to expand the volume of bilateral trade and investment," Anutin said.
