TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Inter Milan secured a narrow 1-0 victory away at Cagliari in Matchday 2 of the 2026/27 Italian League (Serie A) season.
An early first-half goal from Hakan Calhanoglu sealed the win for the Nerazzurri at the Sardegna Arena on Monday.
The victory propelled Cristian Chivu's squad to the top of the provisional standings with six points from two matches, while Cagliari sit in 12th place with three points, according to the official legaseriea website as cited by Antara.
Calhanoglu opened the scoring for Inter just nine minutes into the match. Receiving a pass from Nicolo Barella just outside the penalty area, the Turkish midfielder fired a shot that found the bottom-left corner of the Cagliari goal, making it 1-0.
That strike proved to be the only goal of the match. Inter had several opportunities to extend their lead, but the resilience of Cagliari goalkeeper Elia Caprile kept the scoreline tight.
Inter nearly doubled their advantage in the 25th minute. Lautaro Martinez had a chance, but his shot went wide.
Three minutes later, Federico Dimarco tried his luck with a volley, but Caprile was alert once again and managed to parry the ball away.
Inter continued to dominate until the end of the first half. Lautaro played a through-ball to Luis Henrique, but unfortunately, the Brazilian's finish missed the target.
The 1-0 scoreline remained unchanged at halftime.
In the second half, Inter maintained control of the game. Pio Esposito had a golden opportunity after receiving a pass from Barella, but Caprile denied his shot.
Esposito had another chance in the 59th minute, but this time his header went wide of the Cagliari goal.
Inter began to ease off the pressure midway through the second half, allowing Cagliari to play more boldly in search of an equalizer.
Cagliari created a chance from a corner kick; Alessandro Romano delivered the ball for Gennaro Borrelli to head, but the effort went wide. Inter managed to hold onto their 1-0 lead until the final whistle.
