iPhone 18 Pro Series to Use OLED Panels from Samsung and LG

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The OLED panel components for the iPhone 18 Pro will be supplied by two South Korean companies, Samsung Display and LG Display. Apple is likely to launch this device in the second half of 2026. "The two companies will manufacture Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide Plus (LTPO+) OLED panels, which offer improved power efficiency while supporting variable refresh rates," as stated by Sam Mobile on Friday, May 8, 2026.

The LTPO+ technology was previously introduced as an advancement of the LTPO panel used in the iPhone 17. This new technology applies oxide material not only to the switching Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) but also to the driving TFT, making the current adjustment to the OLED layer more precise and power-efficient.

The report also mentioned that the Chinese screen manufacturer, BOE, failed to meet the quality and production capacity requirements for LTPO+ panels for the iPhone 18 Pro line. This condition has given Samsung Display and LG Display a larger advantage in Apple's supply chain.

Samsung Display is expected to increase its production capacity by 10 to 15 percent in the second half of 2025 compared to the first. This move is considered to help the company secure panel orders for Apple's latest iPhone series.

Samsung Display is estimated to supply around 146 million OLED panels to Apple, while LG Display will supply more than 82 million units. Meanwhile, BOE will still supply OLED panels for older iPhone models and lower-end variants such as the iPhone 14, iPhone 15, iPhone 16e, iPhone 16, iPhone 17e, and iPhone 17.

Since Apple adopted LTPO displays, even in the base model of the iPhone 17, the technological gap between South Korean screen manufacturers and BOE has widened. Although BOE has been able to produce LTPO panels, the company is unable to meet Apple's required production volume.
