TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) stated that the slowdown in the growth of the average savings balance per account is driven by several factors simultaneously. "The growth in the average savings balance is influenced by various factors, so it cannot be attributed to a single cause," said OJK Chief Executive for Banking Supervision, Dian Ediana Rae, in a written statement on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
The factor Dian referenced involves shifts in personal financial management habits shaped by economic conditions.
Dian noted that rising cost-of-living pressures and escalating household consumption needs continue to constrain savings capacity for certain segments of the population.
On the other hand, Dian stated that an array of financial instruments offers alternative avenues for the public to manage and grow capital aligned with their specific risk profiles and financial goals.
Dian observed that consumers are increasingly turning toward alternative investment vehicles, including mutual funds, Government Securities (SBN), and gold.
Furthermore, the slowdown inbalance growth is also linked to existing bank customers opening secondary savings accounts to segregate or manage different fund allocations.
In June 2026, individual savings account balances under Rp100 million recorded a year-on-year growth of 5.51 percent.
In terms of account volume, the growth of individual savings accounts holding under Rp100 million stood at 8.06 percent year-on-year. This pace reflects a slight deceleration compared to the 8.89 percent year-on-year expansion recorded in the same period last year. "However, it is higher than the growth rate across all savings account categories," he concluded.
