TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto warned that the war in the Middle East could escalate and urged Indonesia to prepare for the potential impact of a prolonged global crisis.
"We must mentally prepare that the war in the Middle East will continue for a long time, escalate, and become worse," Prabowo said in Batang, Central Java, on Thursday, July 30, as reported by the Presidential Secretariat.
Prabowo said the conflict could pose a serious threat to many countries and trigger a wider global crisis.
"A global crisis is not a minor crisis. A real global crisis, a war, is very dangerous and formidable. Therefore, we must remain united," he said.
Prabowo Calls for Faster Response
The Gerindra Party chairperson said Indonesia's abundant resources could help the country navigate difficult geopolitical conditions.
He called on the government to work more effectively, efficiently, and carefully amid growing global uncertainty.
"We will work very quickly to provide tangible results for the people and drive our economy," Prabowo said.
Prabowo Attends Housing Credit Agreement
Prabowo made the remarks during an event marking the signing of a mass agreement for 62,000 subsidized housing loans (KPR) and People's Business Credit (KUR) worth Rp880 billion in Batang, Central Java.
The program is part of the government's efforts to expand access to home ownership for low-income communities.
"We work hard through various programs and continue to think of the best ways to increase the number of homes that can be enjoyed by the people," Prabowo said.
The event also included a video conference with debtor representatives from several regions participating in the simultaneous agreement.
"We want all Indonesian citizens to have decent homes," Prabowo said.
