TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The World Bank has appointed former Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati as an Independent Co-Chair for the 22nd fundraising round of the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank Group’s fund for the world’s poorest countries.
The World Bank said Sri Mulyani’s experience would help strengthen policy support and financial commitments among donor countries and borrowing nations.
“In this role, she will champion stronger policy and financial support for IDA22 across donor and borrower countries,” the World Bank said in a written statement on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026.
The World Bank said Sri Mulyani was selected after competing with several candidates representing donor countries and borrowing members. She will serve alongside World Bank Managing Director and Head of Development Policy and Knowledge Paschal Donohoe.
IDA replenishment meetings are typically held every three years to raise new funding for the World Bank’s concessional financing arm and allow partners to review the organization’s policies.
“The process aims to mobilize new resources for IDA, the World Bank Group’s fund for the poorest countries, while allowing partners to review IDA policies,” the World Bank said.
The World Bank said that since the 18th IDA replenishment, the organization has appointed two co-chairs: an independent figure with extensive knowledge of multilateral development banks and a senior World Bank representative appointed by the institution’s president.
The institution described Sri Mulyani as one of the world’s most experienced figures in international development finance.
She is currently serving as a Blavatnik World Leaders Fellow for the 2025–2026 academic year at the University of Oxford. Sri Mulyani previously became Indonesia’s first female finance minister and served as World Bank Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, where she gained extensive experience in development policy and multilateral finance.
The World Bank also noted that Sri Mulyani was included in Forbes’ list of the world’s 100 most influential women.
