These Are the Senior Iranian Military and Nuclear Figures Killed in Israeli Strikes

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The conflict between Iran and Israel has intensified following the United States’ decision to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan on Saturday, June 21, 2025. In retaliation, Iran has vowed to launch a swift counterattack on Sunday, June 22.

"Every American citizen or military personnel in the region is now a target," said a commentator on Iranian state media.

According to Livemint.com, the U.S.-based NGO Human Rights Activists News Agency reported on Friday, June 20, that based on multiple sources, at least 657 people have died in Iran due to the conflict with Israel, including 263 civilians.

The Iranian Ministry of Health released a separate statement confirming that more than 400 civilians had been killed, with thousands of others wounded by missile and drone strikes.

"As of this morning, Israeli attacks have claimed the lives of over 400 defenceless Iranians and left 3,056 others wounded by missiles and drones," Iranian Ministry of Health spokesperson Hossein Kermanpour said in a tweet on Saturday, June 21.

Among the casualties are several high-ranking officials and key figures in Iran's military and nuclear programs. Here are some of the prominent individuals reported killed:

June 13, 2025

Citing Al Jazeera, four senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed in Israeli airstrikes. Six notable Iranian nuclear scientists also lost their lives. The individuals named include:

  • IRGC Commander Hossein Salami

  • Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Bagheri

  • Commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters Gholamali Rashid

  • IRGC Aerospace Force Commander (name not specified)

  • Nuclear scientist Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi

  • Nuclear scientist Fereydoun Abbasi

  • Nuclear scientist Abdolhamid Minouchehr

  • Nuclear scientist Ahmad Reza Zolfaghari

  • Nuclear scientist Amir Hossein Faghihi

  • Nuclear scientist Motallebzadeh

Also reported by Al Jazeera, on Sunday, June 15, the Iranian Ministry of Health confirmed that IRGC Intelligence Organization Chief Mohammad Kazemi was killed in an Israeli strike, along with two other generals.

June 17, 2025

According to The New York Times, Israel announced the killing of Major General Ali Shadmani on Tuesday, June 17. Shadmani had been appointed just four days prior and was described as one of Iran’s most senior military leaders.

June 21, 2025

In another report by The New York Times, Israeli forces claimed to have killed three more senior Iranian commanders on Saturday, June 21:

  • Mohammed Said Izadi, Head of the Quds Force’s Palestinian Affairs branch

  • Behnam Shahriyari, Quds Force Commander

  • Aminpour Joudaki, IRGC Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Operations Commander
