Trump Claims Israel-Gaza Conflict Could End Within Three Weeks

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United States President Donald Trump voiced optimism on Monday, August 25, 2025, that the war in Gaza will soon come to an end. Speaking to reporters, Trump claimed the conflict could reach a resolution within three weeks.

"I think within the next two to three weeks, you’re going to have pretty good, conclusive ending," Trump said, as quoted by Al Jazeera.

He stressed that the suffering in Gaza must be halted. "It’s got to get over with because between the hunger and all of the other problems – worse than hunger, death, pure death – people [are] being killed," he added.

However, despite repeated promises to broker peace, Trump’s words have yet to translate into a ceasefire or smoother humanitarian access

Washington continues to send billions of dollars in military aid to Israel while rejecting international recognition of a Palestinian state. Earlier this year, Trump even floated the idea of expelling Palestinians from Gaza, a proposal widely condemned as ethnic cleansing.

Israeli Strike on Nasser Hospital

According to ABC News, an Israeli airstrike on the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, killed at least 21 people, including five journalists, on Monday morning. The Gaza Ministry of Health and the Gaza Government Media Office confirmed the figures.

Al Jazeera said its cameraman, Mohammed Salama, was among the dead, condemning the strike as “a terrible crime that directly targets journalists as part of a systematic campaign to silence the truth.”

Other journalists killed included Reuters staff Hussam al-Masri and Moaz Abu Taha, Middle East Eye correspondent Ahmad Abu Aziz, and freelance reporter Mariam Dagga, who had been working for the Associated Press since the conflict began in October 2023. Reuters also reported its photographer Hatem Khaled was wounded in the strike.

Israel’s Response

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the bombing as a “tragic mistake,” insisting that Israel’s fight is against Hamas, not civilians.

"Israel deeply regrets the tragic mishap that occurred today at the Nasser Hospital in Gaza," Netanyahu's office said in a statement. "Israel values the work of journalists, medical staff, and all civilians."

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) echoed that position. “We are aware of reports that harm was caused to civilians, including journalists. I would like to be clear from the start -- the IDF does not intentionally target civilians,” said spokesperson Brigadier General Effie Defrin, adding that efforts are made to minimize civilian casualties while protecting Israeli troops.

Mounting Humanitarian Toll

The humanitarian toll in Gaza continues to climb. The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that three people, including children, died of starvation in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of deaths from hunger since October 2023 to 303.

Meanwhile, 75 more Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks, including 17 people waiting for humanitarian aid. Since May 27, when the Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF) aid distribution system began, at least 2,140 aid seekers have been killed.

The ministry’s latest figures put the overall death toll since the war began at 62,819 people, with more than 158,000 wounded.
