TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian National Police Chief, Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, responded to rumors of a presidential letter (surpres) regarding his replacement as Police Chief.
Sigit stated on Wednesday that the decision to replace the Bhayangkara Corps leader was President Prabowo Subianto's prerogative. He also left the decision to the President.
"That's the President's prerogative. So, for us soldiers, whatever is required will be done. We'll just wait," he said, as quoted by ANTARA.
He also made sure that the rumor of a presidential letter to him would not affect the National Police's performance. "It doesn't really (disturb performance)," he said.
On Tuesday, August 4, the Chair of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III, Habiburokhman, denied rumors of a presidential letter regarding the replacement of the National Police Chief, Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
"It is not true that there is a presidential letter regarding the replacement of the National Police Chief," said Habiburokhman in his official statement. The law enforcement legislator urged the public not to be influenced by issues that are incorrect and have no clear basis.
Echoing Habiburokhman, Ahmad Sahroni, Deputy Chair of DPR Commission III, also stated that there was no presidential letter regarding the replacement of the National Police Chief. He claimed that he was unaware of the letter's form. "We don't (have the letter), absolutely not yet," said Sahroni.
Despite this, Sahroni stated that General Sigit has performed well as National Police Chief over the past five years. Therefore, he believes there is no urgency to replace the police force's top leadership.
"He's done an extraordinary job, and although he has shortcomings, that's understandable. I'm sure the President retained Pak Sigit because his performance has been quite good," said Sahroni.
