TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - With only three months left in 2026, the promised incentives for electric motorcycles have yet to be implemented. The chair of the Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Industry Association (Aismoli), Budi Setiyadi, questioned the government's certainty.
The incentive distribution plan was announced at the start of this year, Budy said. "Then there's always been a follow-up, a resubmission, another resubmission, until now. It was once again promised by Finance Minister Purbaya before he was dismissed," Budi said during a meeting with Commission VII of the House of Representatives in Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, September 21, 2026.
When he served as Finance Minister, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa had announced the plan to provide a Rp3 million subsidy per unit for electric vehicles. However, since Purbaya's departure, the policy has not materialized. On the one hand, this uncertainty hampers electric motorcycle sales.
The much-awaited news from the Ministry of Industry has also not arrived. Therefore, Budi estimates this will impact the market absorption of electric motorcycles this year. "It's already September, so maybe we have a few months left to absorb it. It might be a bit difficult," he said.
Aismoli noted that since the beginning of 2023-2024, subsidies have supported electric motorcycle sales. In 2023, due to the early stages, the industry could only sell around 15,000 units. But in 2024, sales jumped to 77,000 units. In 2025, even without subsidies, sales could still reach 70,000 units.
However, in 2026, up to August, there were only 18,900 units of electric motorcycles sold. "It's a significant drop. Why is that? Because it involves government policies, which sometimes exist and sometimes don't," he said. budi said this continued uncertainty disrupts the industry as many await when subsidies will be distributed.
