TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim revealed the details of his discussion with President Prabowo Subianto during their meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, March 27, 2026. Anwar stated that his meeting with Prabowo created an opportunity to find common ground and address the conflict in the Middle East.

The United States and Israel's war against Iran is said to have shaken global stability. Therefore, Anwar stated that Malaysia and Indonesia need to strengthen cooperation to maintain regional stability and the welfare of the people.

"In the increasingly acute global uncertainty, Malaysia and Indonesia affirm the need to strengthen regional alignment, principled in maintaining peace, ensuring stability, and strengthening economic resilience for the welfare of the people," said Anwar in Malay, through the social media account X @anwaribrahim, on Friday.

According to the Prime Minister, he and Prabowo agreed to increase diplomatic efforts to ease the conflict in the Middle East and protect civilian lives. This will create an environment conducive to negotiations for a peaceful and sustainable solution.

At the same time, Anwar noted that both countries emphasized the importance of maintaining stability in strategic trade routes such as the Strait of Hormuz. This is to ensure that the global supply chain is not affected by the raging war.

Furthermore, Anwar conveyed that Malaysia continues to communicate with world leaders to align views and study the global impacts of the evolving conflict, especially in terms of energy supply and regional security.

"Malaysia remains firm in its stance, rejecting terrorism, upholding international law, and urging all parties to return to the path of peace," said Anwar.

Anwar Ibrahim visited Jakarta at the invitation of President Prabowo after the two had a phone conversation on March 23, 2026. The communication between the two leaders was initially for the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.

Less than a week later, Anwar Ibrahim departed for Indonesia to attend President Prabowo's invitation. Anwar landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, East Jakarta, on Friday afternoon. Foreign Minister Sugiono welcomed him directly.
