TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The latest operating system from Apple, the iOS 26, wasofficially updated earlier this week. However, not all iPhone models are supported by this update. There are three iPhone models that are no longer supported by iOS 26, namely iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.
All three are still compatible with iOS 18 from last year, but now Apple has discontinued its support. Meanwhile, the list of iPhones compatible with iOS 26 includes:
- iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max
- iPhone 16e, iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max
- iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
- 2nd generation iPhone SE and newer
Citing 9to5Mac, not all features are available on all models. Over 20 new features of Apple Intelligence in iOS 26 can only be used on the latest iPhones, with minimal support starting from the iPhone 15 Pro.
Updates in iOS 26
As reported by MacRumors, here are some of the main features of iOS 26:
- Liquid Glass: New design with transparent menus, buttons, and icons, which Apple claims can reflect and refract the surrounding environment. This design is said to bring a livelier display on navigation, controls, app icons, and widgets.
- Improved Lock Screen: The clock on the lock screen now automatically adjusts the empty space, and supports full-screen album art animation display for specific songs in Apple Music.
- New iMessage features: Starting from conversation backgrounds, polls in group chats, sending Apple Cash, indicators of who is typing, a quick add contact button, the option to select part of the text in messages, to automatic filtering of messages from unknown senders.
- Call Screening and Hold Assist: The iPhone can now request unknown callers to state their name and reason for calling, as well as automatically wait when the call is put on hold and then notify when the agent is ready.
- Adaptive Power Mode: A new power-saving mode that adjusts performance to extend battery life, such as lowering screen brightness and automatically activating Low Power Mode at 20% battery remaining. This feature is only available for the iPhone 15 Pro and above.
- AutoMix in Apple Music: Allows smoother song transitions like a DJ, replacing the previous Crossfade feature.
- Preview app: Preview scheme is available on the iPhone for editing and adding notes to PDF files and images, similar to macOS.
- Improved CarPlay: The Liquid Glass design is also introduced to CarPlay, with sparkling app icons and transparent elements. Users can now reply to messages with standard Tapbacks directly from CarPlay.
