TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A passenger of the Argo Bromo Anggrek train has filed a lawsuit against state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) following the catastrophic accident at Bekasi Timur Station on April 27, 2026. The legal action was formally lodged at the Bandung District Court.
According to the official Case Tracking Information System (SIPP) of the Bandung District Court, the plaintiff, Rolland E. Potu, registered the suit on May 5, 2026. The case is currently docketed under number 251/Pdt.G/2026/PN Bdg.
"The defendants include PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (Persero), and the Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara) Investment Management Agency," the court’s SIPP portal stated, as quoted by Tempo on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
In this legal challenge, the plaintiff is alleging wrongful acts against those mentioned and also PT Trinusa Travelindo. The Bandung District Court’s records further indicate that the initial trial is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
The collision occurred at the Bekasi Timur Station crossing on Monday, April 27, 2026, at approximately 8:57 PM. At that time, a Commuter Line (KRL) train traveling from Kampung Bandan to Cikarang was struck from behind by the high-speed Argo Bromo Anggrek, which was en route from Gambir to Surabaya Pasar Turi.
The tragedy began when a Green SM online taxi suffered an electrical short circuit while immobilized on the tracks near the station. Commissioner Sandhi Wiedyanoe, Head of the Traffic Accident Gathering, Analysis, and Data Section of the Indonesian Police, explained that the stalled vehicle triggered the initial disruption on the line. "A collision occurred involving the train and the vehicle," Sandhi remarked.
Simultaneously, the Cikarang-bound KRL was halted at Bekasi Timur Station. Disastrously, the Argo Bromo Anggrek was approaching on the same track at a high rate of speed. "It was traveling at 110 kilometers per hour," Sandhi noted.
The impact from the Argo Bromo Anggrek shattered the KRL’s rear, splitting the women-only carriage. Dozens of passengers were trapped and crushed in the wreckage. The incident resulted in 16 fatalities and left dozens of others injured.
To date, police have yet to name any suspects. Commissioner Budi Hermanto stated that investigators are currently gathering statements from various witnesses, including the individual identified by the initials RRP, the driver of the Green SM taxi.
According to Budi, the driver had been on the job for only two days at the time of the crash. Furthermore, the driver had reportedly only received rudimentary training regarding the identification and handling of electric vehicles.
