THOUSANDS of workers and union members are said to be participating in a protest scheduled for Thursday, August 28, 2025. President of the Indonesian Trade Union Confederation, Said Iqbal, said that the focal point for the demonstration on August 28 will be in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) building in Senayan, Jakarta.
"Not less than 10,000 workers from Karawang, Bekasi, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Jakarta will move towards the capital city," said Said in his statement on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
Bareng Warga, a collective social media account, also mentioned that the demonstration focal point on August 28th will take place at the Jakarta City Hall and in front of the Horse Statue in Central Jakarta.
Said stated that the workers' demonstration on August 28 will not only be held in Jakarta. According to him, this demonstration will be held simultaneously in various provinces, especially in areas with large industrial zones.
Among others, demonstrations will take place in Serang, Banten; Bandung, West Java; Semarang, Central Java; Surabaya, East Java; Medan, North Sumatra; Banda Aceh, Aceh; Batam, Riau Islands. The demonstration on August 28 will also be held in Bandar Lampung, Lampung; Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan; Pontianak, West Kalimantan; Samarinda, East Kalimantan; Makassar, South Sulawesi; and Gorontalo.
Said Iqbal said that his group has mapped out several demands to be conveyed in this demonstration on August 28. The first demand, said Said, is pressing the government to raise the 2026 minimum wage by 8.5-10 percent. The labor group also rejects layoffs and demands the elimination of the outsourcing system.
Then, they insist on pushing for tax reform. Because, according to him, the current tax system has burdened workers and the people.
The labor action also demands the urgent passage of the new labor law draft, as per Constitutional Court Decision Number 168 of 2024, which won the labor lawsuit. In addition, the workers also demand the enactment of the Asset Seizure Bill and the revision of the Election Law.
