TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The managing director of regional marketing at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Dave Schulte, stated that global demand for aircraft continues to rise, but availability remains limited. He urged airlines worldwide, including those in Indonesia, to carefully plan their orders to ensure they receive the aircraft they need.
Dave explained that Boeing currently operates nearly 30,000 active aircraft worldwide, but this number is still insufficient to meet the surge in airline demand. "There is a shortage of 1,500 new aircraft that have not been delivered to the market," said Dave during a press conference at Menara Astra, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
He emphasized that meeting the demand for aircraft presents a significant challenge amid the continuing annual rise in demand. "This makes it more difficult for airlines to acquire new aircraft. This is one of the key aspects that needs to be considered," said Dave, who oversees the markets of Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania.
He recommended that airlines plan their fleets by considering business growth opportunities before placing orders. Dave also noted that Boeing has been collaborating with various airlines, including Garuda Indonesia, to support their fleet needs and business expansion.
In its official statement, Boeing views the Southeast Asian aviation industry, particularly in Indonesia, as being in a period of unique growth. Contributing factors include the vast geographical area and the region's increasing role in global trade and tourism.
The surge in aircraft demand also presents significant employment opportunities in the aviation sector. It is estimated that airlines in Southeast Asia will hire around 243,000 new employees, which is more than three times the number of current employees. This recruitment will include 103,000 cabin crew, 62,000 pilots, and 78,000 technicians.
