TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City cruised to a 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace in the second week of the 2026/27 Premier League season at Selhurst Park early Saturday, August 29, Jakarta time.
Rayan Cherki also scored twice for City, while Palace's only goal came from an own goal by Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The victory gave Enzo Maresca's side six points from two matches and temporarily moved them to the top of the Premier League table.
Crystal Palace, meanwhile, remain without a point after suffering their second consecutive defeat, leaving them at the bottom of the standings, according to the Premier League website.
Manchester City opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Haaland met a cross with a well-placed header into the top-left corner, beyond the reach of Dean Henderson.
Palace responded with several attacks from the flanks. Jorgen Strand Larsen and Tyrick Mitchell both had headed chances but failed to beat Donnarumma.
City nearly doubled their advantage shortly before halftime when Cherki unleashed a powerful shot after receiving a through ball, but Henderson made the save. City went into the break 1-0 ahead.
Palace returned from halftime with greater attacking intent as they looked for an equalizer. However, City extended their lead in the 54th minute.
Cherki beat his marker with an individual run before firing a shot from inside the box into the bottom-left corner to make it 2-0.
Palace pulled one back just two minutes later through an unfortunate own goal. Yeremy Pino's free kick struck the crossbar before rebounding off Donnarumma and into the net, reducing the deficit to 2-1.
City quickly regained control, with Cherki scoring his second goal in the 59th minute with a powerful strike to restore their two-goal advantage.
Haaland completed his brace in the 84th minute, latching onto a low cross inside the penalty area and firing into the top-left corner.
The goal secured a 4-1 victory for Manchester City and capped an impressive individual performance from the Norwegian striker.
