Indonesia Expands Home Renovation Program to 400,000 Units in 2026

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait announced that the government has increased the target for its home renovation program in 2026 to 400,000 units.

The announcement came during a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, April 6, 2026.

The program, known as the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS), aims to improve housing conditions for low-income households.

“We just had a meeting with the President, who showed extraordinary support for the people’s housing. One of the strategic steps is to accelerate home renovations for the public,” Maruarar said.

Last year, the program targeted 45,000 units, leaving around 220 regencies and cities without a quota. This year, however, all regions across Indonesia will be included.

Maruarar added that key government officials, including Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, are helping design a scheme to renovate hundreds of thousands of homes nationwide.

“This program is highly significant. It will drive local economic growth and promote social justice,” Maruarar said.

At the end of 2025, Maruarar stated that the budget for renovating uninhabitable homes would increase eight times, following direct instructions from President Prabowo.

Out of the Ministry of Housing’s total 2026 budget of around Rp10.89 trillion, Rp8.1 trillion, or roughly 80 percent, has been allocated specifically for renovating poor households’ homes.

Maruarar emphasized that the policy prioritizes the needs of the poor over efficiency concerns.

“This budget policy favors the people. The President does not focus on efficiency here but is generous in a positive sense, prioritizing the public,” he said.
