TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said he will discuss the 17+8 People’s Demands with faction leaders following an audience with representatives from student executive board (BEM) and other student organizations on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
“Some of the points conveyed by the BEM representatives are also included in the 17+8 points,” Dasco said at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta.
He emphasized that the House will soon conduct comprehensive evaluations, including a review of allowances and the transparency of its activities.
The leaders of the DPR plan to hold an evaluation meeting with faction heads on Thursday, September 4, to align opinions and agreements on the 17+8 points, Dasco noted.
Earlier today, three House leaders met with student representatives following a wave of demonstrations that began on August 25, 2025, which ended in riots and resulted in at least 10 civilian deaths.
In response to the protests, the public has formulated a set of points to be conveyed to the government and parliament, naming them the 17+8 People’s Demands.
The movement summarizes popular demands circulating on social media, consisting of 17 short-term demands and 8 long-term demands.
The government has been given a deadline of September 5, 2025, to address the 17 short-term demands, while the 8 long-term demands are expected to be fulfilled within a year.
