TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia has called on the international community to take joint action against what it says are Israel’s ongoing violations in Palestinian territories, particularly in East Jerusalem and the Al Aqsa Mosque compound.
The appeal was delivered by Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister during a ministerial-level meeting on Jerusalem held in Amman, Jordan, on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
“Indonesia urges the international community to no longer rely on old approaches. We must stop allowing violations and stop addressing them in a fragmented manner,” Arrmanatha said at the meeting, according to a statement from Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry confirmed in Jakarta on Thursday.
“Division is a gap that Israel has always taken advantage of,” he added.
During the meeting, Arrmanatha highlighted the rapidly changing political landscape in the Middle East, citing rising tensions linked to Israeli settler activities in the occupied West Bank, Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, developments involving Syria and Lebanon, and the escalation of tensions between the United States and Iran.
He stressed that the Palestinian cause is not solely a concern for Muslims but represents a broader global issue, particularly among countries in the Global South.
“Even countries that have traditionally maintained close ties with Israel have imposed sanctions on Israeli settlers in the West Bank,” Arrmanatha said.
He called on countries attending the Amman meeting to form a broader coalition in support of Palestine and outlined five key steps to advance the effort.
These measures include developing a unified strategy based on international law and decisions by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), expanding global recognition of Palestinian sovereignty, strengthening efforts to protect the Al Aqsa Mosque compound, and supporting Gaza’s reconstruction, Palestinian national unity, and the mandate of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA.
Arrmanatha also reaffirmed Indonesia’s support for the continued custodianship of Jerusalem’s holy sites by Jordan’s Hashemite royal family, including the Al Aqsa Mosque compound.
The Amman meeting was attended by representatives from Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Egypt, Türkiye, Tunisia, Somalia, Pakistan, Morocco, Palestine, Malaysia, and Qatar, as well as the secretary-general of the Arab League.
In a joint statement, the delegates expressed support for Palestinian institutions in Jerusalem, rejected unilateral moves to relocate diplomatic missions to the city, and pledged to increase global awareness of Israeli violations and their broader consequences.
