TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian U-17 national team has made a triumphant first step in the 2026 AFF U-17 Cup. Under Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto's wings, the team secured a resounding 4-0 victory over Timor Leste in a Group A match at Gelora Joko Samudro Stadium, Gresik, late Monday, April 13, 2026.
Captain Putu Ekayana led with two rapid goals in the 6th and 17th minutes. The other two goals were scored by Ridho in the 37th minute and Dava Yunna in the 42nd minute, ensuring a commanding victory for the young Garuda in the opening match.
The victory put Indonesia level with Vietnam at the top of the Group A standings. Both teams collected three points with an identical goal difference after Vietnam also secured a 4-0 win over Malaysia.
From the initial opening whistle, as reported by Skor.id, the difference in quality between the two teams was apparent. Indonesia immediately dominated the game and exerted pressure on Timor Leste's defense. The opening goal quickly materialized as Putu Ekayana capitalized on a scramble in front of the goal after a pass from Keanu Sanjaya.
In the 17th minute, Putu again made his mark on the scoresheet, once more from a loose ball situation in the penalty box. Indonesia actually had opportunities to add more goals earlier, but the lack of sharpness in the finishing made several offenses go to waste.
The third goal was fired just before the break. Ridho unleashed a powerful left-footed shot from close range that the Timor Leste goalkeeper failed to stop. Five minutes later, Dava Yunna scored the fourth goal, closing the first half with a commanding 4-0 lead.
Entering the second half, Timor Leste showed more courage and threatened Indonesia's defense several times. But their efforts were not effective enough to close the gap. Indonesia still controlled the game despite making several substitutions. Nevertheless, no additional goals were scored until the end of the match.
In the next match, Indonesia will face Malaysia on Thursday, April 16, 2026. Meanwhile, Vietnam is scheduled to meet Timor Leste in another Group A match.
