TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government will offer a 50-percent electricity rate discount in June and July 2025. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the discount is part of a six-program subsidy and assistance package scheduled to launch on June 5, 2025.
"The 50-percent electricity discount in June and July 2025 is aimed at 79.3 million households," Airlangga said in a written statement on Saturday, May 24.
This upcoming discount targets users with electricity capacity below 1,300 Volt-Amperes (VA). Earlier, in January and February 2025, the government also provided a 50 percent electricity discount, but with different criteria.
From January to February, the discount applied to PLN household customers with installed capacity up to 2,200 VA. That measure was a response to the increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) from 11 percent to 12 percent effective January 2025, to cushion the impact on inflation and lower-income households' purchasing power.
In contrast, and unfortunately for the 2200 VA customers group, the June to July 2025 discount targets only three customer categories: 450 VA, 900 VA, and 1,300 VA users. This is a narrower range than the January-February scheme, which included households up to 2,200 VA.
The June-July 2025 electricity discount is part of the government's strategy to sustain household consumption during the school holiday period while maintaining national economic stability. The initiative is intended to help boost economic growth in the second quarter of 2025.
