TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple has added cross-platform eSIM transfer support in the iOS 26 update, enabling users to move their eSIM between iPhone and Android devices without needing help from mobile operators. This new feature aims to simplify the number transfer process for users who plan to switch operating systems.
According to Mac Rumors, some iOS 26 users have reported seeing a 'Transfer to Android' option in their mobile settings.
However, this function is not yet compatible with all types of eSIM packages. For example, an iPhone user with a Dark Star eSIM from US Mobile found the option to transfer their eSIM to Android within the settings.
Additionally, when users add an eSIM in iOS 26, they can now find a 'Transfer From Android' option. Selecting it will prompt the system to display a QR code, which can be scanned using an Android device to begin the transfer process. This method also works in the opposite direction.
The cross-platform capability seems to have been developed in collaboration between Apple and Google. Previously, references to the 'Transfer to Android' feature were found in the beta version of Android 16, suggesting future support for eSIM transfers between the two platforms.
Before the release of iOS 26, transferring an eSIM between iPhones was already a relatively simple process. However, moving an eSIM from an iPhone to an Android device typically required contacting the mobile carrier to obtain a QR code, as there was no automated solution.
The iOS 26 update now makes switching from iPhone to Android more user-friendly.
