TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran's Deputy Oil Minister Ahmad Zeraatkar said Tehran has restored about 40 percent of the damaged production capacity at the South Pars oil and gas field, according to Fars news agency on Thursday, August 27.
As quoted by ANTARA, amid an escalation of the conflict, the United States and Israel attacked South Pars’ facility in March.
In May, the Iranian authorities announced that they have drawn up a plan to restore and modernize the affected infrastructure, which is expected to be completed within two years. Approximately 50 percent of the restoration work on the South Pars facility is scheduled to be completed by winter 2027.
Zeraatkar added that the infrastructure had suffered serious damage and full capacity restoration could take at least two years.
Previously, Touraj Dehghani, Head of Pars Oil and Gas Company, said last week that the restoration of production capacity at the South Pars refinery had reached 70 percent.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched attacks on several targets in Iran, which Iran then responded to with attacks of its own.
In mid-June, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending hostilities. However, shortly afterward, both sides resumed attacks on each other.
