Jakarta Floods Spread to 148 Neighborhood Units, 20 Roads

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded that 148 neighborhood units (RT) and 20 roads were flooded after heavy rains fell from Saturday night, March 7, 2026, to Sunday morning, March 8, 2026. The number of flooded neighborhood units and roads increased from the previous 75 RTs and 19 roads.

Data from the BPBD Disaster Data and Information Center, monitored as of 12:00 p.m., confirmed that the deluge heavily impacted West, South, and East Jakarta. BPBD spokesperson Mohamad Yohan noted that the flooding was triggered by high-intensity rainfall and the subsequent overflow of several key rivers.

"The affected areas include West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta," Yohan said in an official statement on Sunday.

East Jakarta emerged as the hardest-hit region, with 60 RTs across eight sub-districts, including Kampung Rambutan, Bidara Cina, and Kampung Melayu, submerged under 50 to 90 cm of water.

Meanwhile, South Jakarta saw 55 RTs in eight sub-districts inundated. Petogogan was the most extensively affected area in the south, with 39 RTs under 70 cm of water following the overflow of the Krukut and Nipam PHB Rivers.

"A total of 46 families or 72 people in RT 13/RW 08 in West Pejaten were evacuated," Yohan confirmed, noting that water levels in the area reached up to 150 cm.

In West Jakarta, 33 RTs across 10 sub-districts, such as Rawa Buaya and Kedaung Kali Angke, faced floodwaters ranging from 20 to 100 cm. Other significantly affected areas included Pela Mampang, where water levels peaked at 170 cm due to the Mampang River’s overflow, and Cilandak Barat, which saw depths of 120 cm.

The agency also identified 20 flooded road sections, including major arteries such as Jalan Daan Mogot, Jalan Kapten Pierre Tendean, and Jalan Ciledug Raya, with water levels reaching up to 40 cm.

BPBD Head Isnawa Adji stated that his agency has deployed personnel to monitor conditions and coordinate with the Water Resources Agency, Bina Marga Agency, and Fire and Rescue Agency to drain the flood and ensure that water channels function properly. "The floodwaters are targeted to recede quickly," Yohan added.

Earlier, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that light-intensity rain moistened the entire Jakarta area and the Thousand Islands since the morning. While the weather is expected to transition to partly cloudy by the evening, Isnawa Adji urged the public to remain vigilant.

"I urge the public to remain cautious and alert to the potential flooding and to immediately contact the emergency number 112," he concluded.
