TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Paris Saint-Germain's (PSG) coach, Luis Enrique, asserted that there is no better team than his after securing a spot in the 2025-2026 Champions League final. Les Parisiens claimed a 6-5 aggregate victory over Bayern Munich in the semifinals.
The 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena ensured PSG's consecutive advancement to the final, reaffirming the French team's dominance in Europe. Harry Kane's injury-time equalizer was not enough for Munich to overturn the situation, as PSG had already taken the lead through Ousmane Dembele's early goal in the third minute.
PSG progressed to the knockout stage through playoffs due to their failure to finish in the top eight of the league phase. Nonetheless, Luis Enrique still regards his team as the best in Europe. He feels that his team has proven this by eliminating Bayern.
PSG also secured a meeting with Arsenal in the final in Budapest, Hungary, on May 30. "Do I believe we can win the final? Yes. Do you remember what I said after group stage? I said I don't see any team being better than we are. The critics were saying that PSG are maybe not that great, but I was right," he stated, as quoted by ESPN.
He acknowledged that Bayern is on the same level, while Arsenal is one of the best teams this season. "Bayern are at our level and Arsenal have been one of the best teams this season. They have had an incredible year and are still chasing the Premier League. They are in the final, but I believe in my team and it is important to underline that."
Enrique also emphasized PSG's consistency over the past few years. "We have shown over the last three years that we are ready to face anyone. This is a reliable team because we always fight," he said.
PSG received much praise for their attacking play. However, according to Enrique, the match in Munich proved that his team can also defend well. "Today we showed that when we have to defend with a low block, we can do it," stated the former Barcelona coach. "We don't like to do it and we don't select players to play that way, but we can do it."
He also praised the mentality of his players. "It was great to see players with this kind of mentality. We improved our defense by a lot. We had too many one-on-one situations last week, but we won more duels in this game and maintained our level. Parisians like to play beautiful football and they like to fight and that is our philosophy," he said.
In addition to reaching the Champions League final, PSG is also on the verge of securing their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title and their eighth in the last nine seasons.
