TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Macau U-23 coach Kar-Lok Kenneth Kwok admitted that the Indonesia U-23 national team performed impressively by winning 5-0 in the Group J match of the 2026 AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers at Gelora Delta Sidoarjo Stadium on Saturday night, September 5, 2025.
"The experience and the tempo of the match against Indonesia are very much needed for our team to develop in the future," said Kwok in a press conference after the Group J match of the 2026 AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers at Gelora Delta Sidoarjo Stadium on Saturday night.
Kwok added that his squad is still very young, including an 18-year-old goalkeeper who made his debut. He stated that the performances of Macau's goalkeepers in the last two matches deserved appreciation.
He extended his best wishes to Indonesia for the final match, while his team will focus on facing the final match.
When asked about the difference in Indonesia's current performance compared to the 2018 edition, Kwok recalled the strong home atmosphere when facing the Garuda Muda coached by Milla in the Asian Games.
According to the Hong Kong native coach, the development of Indonesian players has been significant because many have broken into the senior team and played abroad. "Now, the position and results achieved by the Indonesian team are proof that investing in young players yields equivalent results," he said.
Regarding the comparison of Indonesia and South Korea's gameplay, Kwok assessed that both teams rely on a fast tempo.
He mentioned that South Korea uses three defenders and Indonesia uses four defenders with two wide wing-backs, along with strong attackers in the frontline.
From the match against Korea, Kwok highlighted the meticulously trained set-piece variations that resulted in goals. He stated that the main focus is on the defense which will be tested in the decisive match against South Korea.
Macau U-23 player Hou-In Si acknowledged that Indonesia displayed strength although in his opinion, some of the goals could have been avoided. He hoped that his team would rectify the mistakes in the next training session so that the attacking line would be sharper in the final match. "We hope that the attacking line can perform better in the final match," he said.
