TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A micro-earthquake was felt in the Ciater area, Subang Regency, West Java, on Sunday night, September 7, 2025. According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the tremor that occurred at 6:35 p.m. WIB (Western Indonesian Time) originated from an earthquake with a magnitude of 1.8.
The earthquake's epicenter was on land, 18 kilometers northeast of West Bandung Regency. "The earthquake is classified as shallow at a depth of 11 kilometers with the cause being the activity of an active fault," according to a statement shared by Hartanto, the Head of BMKG Region II Tangerang, post-earthquake, on Sunday, September 7, 2025.
The impact of the tremor from the earthquake was felt in the Ciater area, Subang, at II MMI intensity scale. The vibration was weak, only felt by a few people indoors and only caused light hanging objects to sway.
So far, according to BMKG, there have been no reports of building damage as a result of the earthquake. Until 8:38 p.m., BMKG declared no subsequent earthquake activity. The public is urged to remain calm and not be influenced by unverifiable rumors.
The Ciater earthquake is the latest earthquake whose tremors could be felt in Indonesia. BMKG data shows that there have been four earthquakes throughout the day whose impact was felt. Three of them occurred in Southeast Sulawesi.
All three earthquakes were also centered on land. The first occurred at 7:50 a.m. WIB (M2.8), the second at 9:18 a.m. WIB (M3.5), and the third at 9:24 a.m. WIB (M2.7). All of them had an impact with II-III MMI scale tremors, or the strongest could be felt indoors as if a truck was passing by.
The tremors of these earthquakes were felt in South Konawe (M2.8), in Konawe and Kendari (M3.5), and Kendari (M2.7). The epicenter of the first earthquake was on land, 2 kilometers southwest of Laeya, South Konawe. The other two that followed were then found to be centered on land, 1 kilometer southwest of Mandonga, Kendari.
