TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Trade Budi Santoso stated that Indonesia's trade balance showed positive performance from January to July 2025 with a cumulative surplus of US$23.65 billion. This figure increased compared to the same period last year, which was US$16.25 billion.

According to Budi, the increase in the surplus was driven by a rise in non-oil and gas revenues, which reached US$34.06 billion in the current period, marking a significant rise from the US$28.49 billion recorded during the same period in 2024. Meanwhile, the non-oil and gas surplus from January to July 2025 was mostly contributed by trading with several main partner countries.

"Such as the United States at US$12.13 billion, India at US$8.13 billion, and the Philippines at US$5.07 billion," said Budi in a written statement on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

Meanwhile, the trade balance in July 2025 recorded a surplus of US$4.17 billion. This figure slightly increased compared to the surplus in June 2025, which was US$4.1 billion. "This achievement marks the continuity of surplus trend for 63 consecutive months since May 2020," he said.

Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics of Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Pudji Ismartini, previously mentioned that the surplus in July 2025 was supported by a non-oil and gas commodity surplus of US$5.75 billion.

"With the main contributing commodities to the surplus being animal or vegetable fats and oils, mineral fuels, as well as iron and steel," said Pudji in a virtual press conference on Monday, September 1, 2025.

Meanwhile, the oil and gas trade recorded a deficit of US$1.58 billion. The commodities contributing to the deficit were oil products and crude oil.

From January to July of 2025, the three countries with the largest surpluses were the United States, India, and the Philippines, with surpluses of US$10.49 billion, US$8.09 billion, and US$5.11 billion, respectively.

Meanwhile, China had the largest deficit of all the countries examined, at US$12.07 billion. It was followed by Singapore, with a deficit of US$3.41 billion, and Australia, with a deficit of US$3.16 billion.

BPS recorded that the export value from January to July reached US$160.16 billion, marking an annual increase of 8.03 percent. On the other hand, Indonesia's import value throughout January-July 2025 was recorded at US$136.51 billion. "Throughout January to July 2025, the total import value reached US$136.51 billion, an increase of 3.41 percent compared to the same period last year," said Pudji.
