TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto summoned a number of Red and White Cabinet ministers for a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon, September 4, 2025.
As observed by Tempo, the ministers had been present since 4 p.m. local time. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the meeting would discuss economic matters.
"(Discussion) related to the economic conditions," said Airlangga at the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, September 4, 2025.
Presidential Special Advisor for National Defense Dudung Abdurahman admitted he's not aware of the directives that will be delivered. He pledged to convey them after the meeting.
Additionally, the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, and Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid were also seen.
Furthermore, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti, and Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto were present.
Also in attendance were Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Lieutenant General TNI (Ret.) Muhammad Herindra and Head of the Development and Special Investigation Control Agency (Bappisus) Aris Marsudiyanto, Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry Rosan Roeslani, and Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf.
The ministers were summoned following Prabowo's visit to China yesterday. Prabowo made the visit amid ongoing demonstrations.
Protests in Jakarta and various other regions in the country have been ongoing since August 25, 2025. The public is demanding the cancellation of the lawmakers' allowance hike, which is deemed unjust considering the economic hardships experienced by the Indonesian citizens.
Protests escalated when a tactical vehicle of the Mobile Brigade Corps ran over an online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver named Affan Kurniawan on Thursday, August 28, 2025. So far, based on Tempo's records, there have been 10 fatalities in the demonstrations held in various cities.
Amidst the protests, the homes of several lawmakers and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani were looted. There have also been cases of vandalism against public facilities.
In response, President Prabowo Subianto claims that the recent protest movements lean towards treason. On September 1, 2025, Prabowo mentioned the burning of the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) building in South Sulawesi that claimed the lives of four civil servants (ASN) as an act of treason.
The statement was made by Prabowo while visiting injured police officers at the Police Hospital, Kramat Jati, Jakarta, on September 1, 2025.
