TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An explosion in a bar in the capital of Spain, Madrid, on Saturday killed one person and injured at least 25, authorities said.
Rescue workers found the body of a man early Sunday morning during a search by local firefighters and police, Madrid's Emergency Services said on X.
The emergency services said on Saturday night that two of the victims were in a "serious" condition, while three were "potentially serious".
Firefighter chief Javier Romero said four people had been pulled from the rubble alive.
What caused the Madrid bar explosion?
Local media reported that the blast, which occurred at the "Mis Tesoros" bar at 3 p.m. (1300 UTC/GMT) in the Puente de Vallecas district of Madrid, was due to a gas leak.
According to the newspaper El Pais, the head of the Madrid City Council Fire Department, Carlos Marin, explained that it was a gas explosion, but that they are still unable to specify the type of gas, the cause, or exactly where it occurred.
Inmaculada Sanz, deputy mayor and delegate for security and emergencies at Madrid town hall, said that it was still "too early to predict what the cause of the explosion could have been."
What else do we know about the blast in Madrid?
Sanz that the residents of the nine housing units that formed part of the building "will have to be rehoused for at least a few days."
The building where the bar is located is "currently unstable," according to Marin of the City Council Fire Department.
While some of the upper apartments were not damaged, the affected area is the entrance, which means "access to the building is completely impossible," Marin said.
