President Prabowo Subianto addressed the potential threat of World War III during a Central and Regional Government Coordination Meeting in Sentul, Bogor, West Java, on Monday, February 2, 2026. Speaking before four thousand regional officials, the Gerindra Party Chair shared details of his meetings with several heads of state during the signing of the Board of Peace membership in Davos, Switzerland, on January 22, 2026.
Prabowo stated that during these discussions, nearly every head of state expressed deep concern regarding the possible outbreak of World War III. He noted that Indonesia would be affected should those fears materialize.
"Brothers and sisters, simulations show that if a nuclear World War III occurs, even those of us who are not involved will certainly be affected by radioactive particles; perhaps our fish would all be contaminated," Prabowo remarked.
Prabowo thus claimed he is fulfilling the mandate of the nation's founding fathers by conducting a foreign policy that adheres to a non-aligned system. He emphasized that Indonesia will not join any military pacts. "We are free and active, non-aligned," he declared.
However, Prabowo continued by explaining that such a non-aligned diplomatic principle carries consequences, as no country would be obligated to assist if Indonesia were attacked. "If we truly want to be non-aligned and remain uninvolved in any pact, then if we are threatened and attacked, no one will help us," he said.
Therefore, Prabowo stated that as the President holding a mandate from the people, he will protect the nation through the various decisions he makes. He mentioned that while certain situations require decisions that may cause him personal agitation, those circumstances must still be confronted.
He further emphasized that the current global landscape must be met with facts rather than mere idealism. "We cannot be emotional, because what matters is the real world," he concluded.
