TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto summoned top security and law enforcement officials after the August 25 House of Representatives (DPR) protests erupted into riots.

The meeting, held at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, was attended by the National Police Chief, the Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI), the Attorney General, and the head of the Special Development Control and Investigation Agency.

Aries Marsudiyanto, head of the agency, said the President emphasized the importance of safeguarding national stability.

“The President ordered us to maintain the nation’s conduciveness. The government is on the right track, and development programs are running well,” Aries told reporters after the meeting.

He also urged the public, especially students and young people, not to be swayed by unverified information. “With the presence of artificial intelligence, filtering news is essential. At a time when Indonesia is progressing, there may be parties who do not want to see the nation move forward,” Aries said.

According to him, certain groups are deliberately trying to incite unrest. “That is why we appeal to young people not to be easily provoked by hoaxes,” he added.

A day earlier, Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Angga Raka Prabowo also warned about the role of manipulated social media content in fueling the August 25 unrest. He said some posts, engineered with artificial intelligence, had gone viral and contributed to escalating tensions.

“This is what we are urging platforms to address. With their systems, they should be able to detect whether content is AI-generated, real, or fake, and take it down immediately,” Angga said at the Presidential Communication Office on Tuesday, August 26.

He clarified that removing such content should not be viewed as restricting free speech but as preventing provocations on the ground.

The government, he added, has invited representatives from TikTok Asia Pacific and Meta Indonesia for discussions. Communication with X, however, has not yet taken place, as the platform has no office in Indonesia.
