TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Bank Indonesia (BI) reported that the volume of digital transactions using the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) reached 12.55 billion during the first half of 2026. This transaction value surged 100.12 percent compared to the same period in 2025.

"QRIS is a gateway to the digital economy and a game-changer for national digital economics and finance," said Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta on the sidelines of the Prima Executive Gathering 2026 in Nusa Dua, Badung Regency, Bali, on Thursday, August 6, 2026, as quoted by Antara. This realization confirms that digital payments have become a daily habit for Indonesians.

Filianingsih explained that by the end of June 2026, total QRIS transaction value reached Rp600.69 trillion, reflecting an 89.52 percent year-on-year growth. This surge indicates that consumers are increasingly comfortable shifting away from cash toward code-scanning transactions via smartphones.

Regarding network reach, the service is currently utilized by approximately 66 million users and accepted across 44.86 million merchants nationwide. The central bank is targeting 70 million users and 47 million merchants by year-end, so the mid-year figures would demonstrate strong momentum.

For 2026, BI has set an overall target of 17 billion QRIS transactions. Achieving 12.55 billion transactions in the first six months means nearly three-quarters of the full-year target has already been met.

The vast majority of QRIS merchants consist of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that previously faced hurdles accepting cashless payments. Through a single code printed on paper, small vendors can now receive transfers from various banking applications and digital wallets, driving greater financial inclusion across broader segments of society.
