TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN), Muhammad Herindra, claims that the current situation in Indonesia is safe amidst ongoing protests. "Insha Allah, it is safe," he said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

Herindra admitted that President Prabowo Subianto summoned him to the Palace to deliver information. He will convey information about the recent demonstrations. However, He is not yet willing to disclose this information. "There is information that I must convey to the president," he said.

Similar statements were made by Aris Marsudiyanto, the Head of the Agency for Development Control and Special Investigation. Arie claims that Indonesia is currently safe. He said that all sectors of society are united in maintaining this peace. "Everything is safe. All elements of the nation have also been involved. Yesterday, all religious organizations, all of them are united," he said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

Aris mentioned that President Prabowo always reminds all elements of the nation to be united. For Prabowo, unity is the key to Indonesia's progress.

He also stated that Prabowo has instructed all officials of ministries and agencies to open a space for dialogue with the people. "The same goes for the DPR (Parliament), yesterday, a space for dialogue was also provided," he said.

He claimed that the current situation can be handled well. He urged the media to promote national unity and to report positive things. "Not every piece of news is filled with violence," he said.

Protests in Jakarta and various other regions in the country have continued since they started on Monday, August 25, last week. Demonstrators are demanding the cancellation of the increase in parliamentary members' allowances, as it is considered inappropriate given the economic difficulties currently faced by the people.

The protests escalated when a tactical vehicle of the Mobile Brigade Corps of the Indonesian National Police ran over a motorcycle taxi driver named Affan Kurniawan on Thursday, August 28, 2025. According to Tempo, there were 10 fatalities during the demonstrations that took place in various cities until early September.

In response, Prabowo summoned several religious organizations and the chairmen of political parties a few days ago. Following this, a decision was made to revoke the housing allowance for parliamentary members and to impose a moratorium on official visits abroad.
