The House of Representatives (DPR) ratified the revision of Law Number 8 of 2019 concerning the Organization of Hajj and Umrah or the revision of the Hajj Law in the fourth plenary session of the DPR's 2025-2026 session on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. In the session, Chairman of Commission VIII Marwan Dasopang stated that the revision of the Hajj Law is based on three main reasons, namely the legal need for the establishment of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, so that the Hajj Pilgrimage Fund Board (BP Haji) has now officially become a ministry.
The second consideration is the need to improve hajj services in terms of transportation, accommodation, and provisions for pilgrims both in the country and in Saudi Arabia. The third is to adapt to technological developments and changes in Saudi policies. "The Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah will be a one-stop service for all matters related to hajj organization," said Marwan.
2. Hajj Corruption: KPK to Investigate ICW Report on Catering and Accommodation Procurement
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will investigate the alleged corruption in the procurement of catering and accommodations for the 2025 hajj. The suspicion was reported by the Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
"This catering issue may not only be for 2025, but we will also check for 2024, 2023, and previous years," said Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Asep Guntur Rahayu at the KPK Red and White Building on Monday, August 25, 2025.
At present, the report of the alleged corruption is still in the analysis stage at the Directorate of Public Service Receiving Complaints (PLPM). If the alleged corruption in the hajj catering is escalated to an investigation, the KPK will pay more attention to the case.
3. Indonesian Social Minister Explains 3 Stages of Social Assistance Digitalization to Begin in September
Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf described the flow of the digitalization of social assistance (bansos) or social protection (perlinsos) to be implemented by the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) starting from September 2025 in Banyuwangi, East Java. Saifullah explained three digitalization flows of bansos which consist of the upstream, middle, and downstream parts.
The man, familiarly called Gus Ipul, explained that the upstream part of digitalizing bansos is found in the data of bansos beneficiaries. He emphasized that the data would be updated through digital systems or technological instruments.
He mentioned that these technological instruments are part of the government program built by the National Economic Council (DEN). He said that the digital system would integrate all the beneficiary data.
