TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Travelers are increasingly prioritizing well-being in choosing their holiday destinations. However, a city is often synonymous with tall buildings, bustling traffic, and crowded streets. Holafly, an international eSIM provider, revealed a list of the most relaxing cities based on internal research.
According to information from the Holafly website, the research includes the top 50 city destinations listed in the world's best cities rankings. Some key focuses of the study include the number of parks and nature reserves, spas and wellness centers, as well as traffic pollution via TripAdvisor and Numbeo.
The study also reviews the average hours of sunlight per day according to the World Weather & Climate and the general public's happiness level according to the Happy City Index 2025.
From the research, San Diego ranks at the top of the most relaxing cities to visit, with a relaxation score of 68.7 out of 100. Furthermore, the city has the sunniest climate, with an average of 3,054.6 hours of sunlight per year. In terms of happiness, Singapore holds the highest ranking.
Here are the top five most relaxing cities in the world according to Holafly's research, as reported by CN Traveller.
1. San Diego
San Diego tops the list of the most relaxing cities. The Californian city offers access to natural beauty, from stunning coastlines to epic hiking trails and inland routes. San Diego has 266 parks and nature reserves, the most among other cities. One of these is the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve to enjoy beautiful scenery and crowd-free trails. Another option is the San Onofre State Beach for surfing or relaxation at one of the best spas or fitness centers in the city.
2. Singapore
Singapore has 242 parks, 698 spas and fitness centers, and 2,022 hours of sunlight per year. Singapore City is also known as an environmentally friendly city and ambitious to green the entire city by 2030.
3. Vienna
The capital of Austria has over 100 different places for relaxation, and spending the afternoon in galleries or museums is greatly encouraged. The city also has the highest score for pollution-free air and boasts the cleanest air in Europe, largely thanks to smart infrastructure and environmentally friendly policies. This cultural hub is a must-visit for progressive and slow living in 2025.
4. Sydney
Sydney enjoys 2,468 hours of sunlight, so most people spend as much time as possible outdoors. Locals wake up early to head to the beach, spending their mornings surfing, walking, or jogging along the coastline. The Australian capital has 239 parks, allowing residents and visitors to relax in green open spaces.
5. Melbourne
Also in Australia, Melbourne has ranked first in the EIU Global Liveability Index for five consecutive years, and now holds the fourth position. Not only known for its diverse culinary scene, world-class coffee, and cultural centers, the city has 215 parks and nature reserves, 249 spas and fitness centers, and receives 2,360 hours of sunlight every year.
