TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian immigration authorities have deported a 28-year-old Australian man identified as BA and barred him from entering the country for 10 years after he was accused of engaging in an indecent act at a resident's home in North Kuta, Bali.

Ngurah Rai Immigration Office Chief Novyandri said the ban was imposed to maintain public order and security concerning foreign nationals in Bali.

"The 10-year entry ban was imposed after considering the indecent act committed in a private area belonging to a resident," Novyandri said in Jimbaran, Badung, Bali, on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

BA was deported to Brisbane, Australia, following the immigration action.

"We will continue to strengthen immigration oversight and coordinate closely with law enforcement agencies. We will also take firm action if any violations of immigration regulations are found in the future," Novyandri said.

Australian Man Intercepted at Bali Airport

Immigration officers detained BA at the International Departure Terminal of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on Tuesday, August 25, as he was preparing to board a flight to Brisbane.

Officers intercepted him after his identity was flagged through SIMKIM, Indonesia's Immigration Management Information System, which collects and processes immigration data to support operations, management and decision-making.

Authorities stopped BA from departing and took him to an airport room for questioning before handing him over to the Badung Police.

After completing its investigation, the Badung Police recommended that BA be deported and returned him to the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office for the deportation process.

"This deportation was the result of good cooperation with the police in maintaining public order and security for foreign nationals living in or visiting Bali," Novyandri said.

Incident Caught on CCTV

BA came under public attention after footage allegedly showing him engaging in sexual activity in the yard of a resident's home in North Kuta circulated on social media.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 6:30 p.m. local time on Friday, August 21, and was captured by a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera.

Police subsequently visited the resident's home, identified the individual involved and investigated the incident.
