TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Three leaders of the House of Representatives (DPR) held a meeting with representatives of the All-Indonesia Alliance of the Student Executive Board (BEM SI) and several other student organizations on Wednesday afternoon, September 3, 2025. The three Vice-Chairs of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad from the Gerindra Faction, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal from the National Awakening Party Faction, and Saan Mustopa from the NasDem Faction, appeared to meet with the students.
Saan Mustopa described this meeting as an extraordinary forum. "Very important in the midst of today's situation," said Saan in the Abdul Muis Room, Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta. Saan hopes that parliamentary leaders and student representatives can engage in objective and rational dialogue. "In the same position, we both commit to resolving various issues," said Saan.
This meeting was held after a wave of protests since August 25, 2025, ended in riots and caused the deaths of at least 10 civilians. Based on Tempo's observations, the agenda for this audience started around 14.30 WIB (Indonesian Western Time). Various student representatives, such as those from the University of Indonesia Student Board (BEM Universitas Indonesia), Trisakti University Student Board (BEM Universitas Trisakti), and the National Development University Student Board (BEM Universitas Pembangunan Nasional) Jakarta, took turns expressing their demands.
The BEM SI Kerakyatan, BEM SI Rakyat Bangkit, the Executive Student Board of State Islamic Universities (Dema PTKIN), and the Indonesian Christian Students Movement (GMKI) also expressed their aspirations.
Separately, three members of the DPR were also tasked with meeting with protesters from the Indonesian National Student Movement (GMNI) who were demonstrating at the main gate of the DPR building. The three parliament members are Gerindra politician Andre Rosiade, PKB politician Daniel Johan, and Gerindra politician Kawendra Lukistian.
