TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Content claiming that showering at particular hours could impact health conditions was shared by a Facebook account [archive] on January 22, 2026. The post warns against showering between 3:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and 9:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m., claiming that doing so risks contracting chronic fatigue, wet lungs, heart damage, and rheumatism.

But is it true that showering at the aforementioned hours would negatively affect one's health conditions?
FACT CHECK
Tempo's Fact Check team verified this claim by interviewing Mas Rizky Anggun Adipurna Syamsunarno, a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, Padjadjaran University, alongside researching various health references. The verification results show that taking a shower later in the day does not cause certain diseases.
Rizky emphasized that there is no scientific evidence specifically linking bathing time to the risk of chronic diseases. Health problems in the lungs and heart, in fact, stem from unhealthy diet patterns and lifestyles.
“Heart problems, for example, are closely related to unhealthy eating habits and lifestyles. This disease has nothing to do with showering at night,” Rizky told Tempo on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
In a similar vein, Healthline.com reports that there are no studies proving that taking a shower in the morning is always better than showering at night, or vice versa. When to shower hinges entirely on individual preference, as both offer different benefits for a person's schedule and lifestyle.
The benefits of a morning shower include:
- Providing a fresher and cleaner feeling in the morning.
- Healthier hair if you use certain products that are applied to wet hair in the morning.
Meanwhile, the benefits of a night shower include:
- Removing a day's worth of dirt to avoid getting them on the bed.
- Cleaner sheets
- Taking a warm shower before bed may help with better sleep quality and falling asleep faster.
One recommendation from the Society of Pediatric Dermatology and the American Academy of Pediatrics is for parents to bathe their children in the evening from infancy to help establish a normal sleep cycle.
CONCLUSION
Tempo's verification concluded that the claim of taking a shower later in the day or at night risking several diseases is false.
