TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that Indonesia could leave the Board of Peace. Indonesia will leave the institution led by the United States if its goals, such as the independence of Palestine, are not achieved.

Sugiono conveyed this stance after accompanying President Prabowo Subianto in meeting with leaders of Islamic community organizations at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. During the closed meeting, Prabowo explained the decision to join the Board of Peace.

According to Sugiono, the government opens the option to withdraw from the organization if it does not align with the vision and mission of peace. "Yes, if it doesn't align with what we want," Sugiono said at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

Sugiono stated that the Indonesian government has several benchmarks in building peace in Gaza, Palestine, after the Israeli aggression. First, he mentioned the current peaceful situation in Gaza and Palestine overall.

The main goal, he said, is the independence of Palestine. "Ultimately, it is the independence and sovereignty of Palestine," said the politician from the Gerindra Party.

Sugiono mentioned that the objective is the trajectory or path that Indonesia wants to take through the Board of Peace. "I think the corridors are there," he said.

However, Sugiono said that the Board of Peace is not yet effectively functioning. "We also don't know yet where its office is, and what its secretariat is like. It's still in process," Sugiono said.

President Prabowo invited several community organizations or Islamic Mass Organizations to the Presidential Palace on Tuesday. More than 50 people were invited to the palace to discuss matters with Prabowo, including the Board of Peace. Some of the organizations present included Muhammadiyah, the Indonesian Ulema Council, and Nahdlatul Ulama.

The closed meeting was also attended by several state officials. Cabinet members who attended included Foreign Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
