TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Vice Chairperson of Indonesia's Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK), Sri Suparyati, stated that the national human rights institution (LN HAM) independent team will investigate the protests and riots that occurred at the end of last August. This fact-finding independent team will also assess the impact of the events, including loss of life, injuries, psychological trauma, social and economic losses, as well as damage to public facilities.
"The monitoring results are aimed not only to address current wounds, but also to ensure that human rights, including those of women, children, and persons with disabilities, are respected and protected," said Sri Suparyati at the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) office in Jakarta on Friday, September 12, 2025.
The External Vice Chairperson of Komnas HAM, Putu Elvina, explained that the formation of this independent fact-finding team is to ensure that the truth is not concealed, the victims are not forgotten, and allegations of human rights violations are not repeated. Komnas HAM calls on the government, law enforcement agencies, and all stakeholders to provide access, protection, and full support to the team's work in upholding truth and justice.
Six national human rights institutions form an independent fact-finding team to investigate the protest events that took place from late August to the post-demonstration period in September 2025.
These six institutions are Komnas HAM, the National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan), the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), the Ombudsman, the National Commission on Disability, and the LPSK.
"We from these six institutions have jointly decided to form an independent team of national human rights institutions for fact-finding in the protest and riot events in August-September 2025," said Chairperson of Komnas HAM, Anis Hidayah, at the same place on Friday, September 12, 2025.
Vice Chairperson of Komnas HAM, Abdul Haris Semendawai, stated that the human rights institution formed an independent team in response to the protests and riots that occurred in Jakarta and various other Indonesian cities in August and September of 2025.
The riots have resulted in at least 10 fatalities, one of whom was a woman. In addition, there were injuries, arbitrary arrests, detentions, damage to public facilities, property losses, and social trauma. "This team is formed to promote the truth in law enforcement, the recovery of victims, and the prevention of similar violations from recurring," said Abdul Haris.
