TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said no Indonesian citizens have been reported among the victims of a magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck Mindanao in the southern Philippines on Monday morning local time.
Heni Hamidah, Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Foreign Ministry, said the ministry and the Indonesian Consulate General in Davao are continuing to monitor developments following the earthquake and the condition of Indonesians in affected areas.
“So far, there has been no information indicating that any Indonesian citizens or Indonesian migrant workers have been affected by the earthquake,” Heni said in a written response to ANTARA in Jakarta.
As the tremor was also felt in eastern Malaysia, Heni said Indonesian representatives in Sabah are monitoring the situation and any potential impacts there.
According to Heni, the monitoring efforts in Malaysia are being carried out in line with advisories issued by the Sabah state government following the earthquake.
“We urge all Indonesian citizens and Indonesian migrant workers to continue monitoring developments and follow the latest information,” she said.
The ministry said Indonesians in need of assistance may contact the Indonesian Consulate General in Davao at +63-966-2455-472. Indonesians in Malaysia can contact the Indonesian Consulate General in Kota Kinabalu at +60-146-060-067 or the Indonesian Consulate in Tawau at +60-198-228-800.
