TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Defense Air Marshal (Ret.) Donny Ermawan Taufanto stated that the situation in Indonesia remains secure despite escalating conflicts in the Middle East. The Deputy Minister noted that the Indonesian people are still able to carry out their Ramadan fasting without any security threats.

"Alhamdulillah, the situation in Indonesia is still safe, unlike the current situation in the Middle East, where the atmosphere does not allow for experiencing Ramadan like in Indonesia," he said while opening an Eid al-Fitr bazaar at the Ministry of Defense compound in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

Donny stated that the secure environment in Indonesia amid the war between Iran, the United States, and Israel is a blessing from God. "This is also a blessing that we should be grateful for," he added.

On the other hand, the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto issued a telegram declaring Alert Level I for all defense units in Indonesia on March 1, 2026. The decision requires all military units to remain on high alert to anticipate domestic threats amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

The telegram specified that the TNI needs to prepare personnel and primary weapon systems. The military must also patrol strategic vital objects and economic centers, including airports, ports, train stations, and bus terminals.

Additionally, there is an order for the Jakarta Regional Military Command (Kodam Jaya/Jayakarta) to patrol and secure foreign embassy offices in Jakarta. Intelligence units have also been mobilized to detect and prevent any groups from exploiting the situation in the Middle East to cause domestic turmoil.

Chief of the TNI Information Center Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah did not provide further explanation regarding the specific threats mentioned or the duration of the Alert Level I implementation. He only explained that the declaration aims to anticipate international, regional, and national developments.

"Therefore, the TNI must maintain high operational readiness, one of which is by conducting routine readiness checks," stated Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah when contacted on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
